 Post subject: Tax Appeals

Jim Uhler did 4 tax appeals for us in 2011,
and none of the property values were changed.
All the properties are in the Mt. Oliver/Carrick
area, where generally values are down.

I'm wondering if others are having a similar experience
lately. Jim did some appeals for us a few years ago, and they
were reassessed to the much lower purchase prices.

Is this a trend, or just bad luck? Does anyone have
experience with appealing the decision? Was it worth
it? Were you happy with the outcome?

I have found that sometimes the tax appeal process is not very scientific. I am doing 15 appeals for one client and have found the results across the board. Many times it depends on the School District and whether they are aggressive in fighting the appeals. Some municipalities are very passive depending on the location of the property and its value.

As to wheher to appeal, i suggest you speak to Jim to see whether he believes it would be worth the cost. if the discrepancy is large then it probably is worth the appeal.
